Meeting the requirements of a greenstar environmentally sustainable project, Keller completed foundations working in and around a busy, operational shopping centre.

The project

To expand the size of Sunshine Plaza, the largest shopping centre on the Sunshine Coast, by 50%, Keller designed and installed 250No Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) concrete injected piles. Piles were 600mm and 750mm in diameter.

The challenge

Being an operating shopping centre conducting the foundation piling with minimum disturbance to daily shoppers as well as the shop proprietors was the top priority. The client brief specified meeting Greenstar design and construction certification.

The solution

While the ground conditions were conducive to several of Keller’s pile types, CFA was ultimately selected as the most non-invasive piling methodology.

Our team undertook a high degree of planning and co-ordination including daily pre-starts in order to manage the impact of construction works around the shopping centre site. We used Dynamic Load Tests and Low Strain Integrity Testing  to verify pile capacity and pile integrity.
