About the role

We have two positions for a design engineer to be part of the Keller design and estimating team in Braeside, Victoria. These roles will require someone who is passionate about geotechnical engineering and eager to learn the different dynamics of engineering, construction, geotechnics and business development. Keller are looking for engineers to join a growing and enthusiastic team of engineers working on marquee infrastructure, residential and commercial projects across Victoria and South Australia.

The Keller design team focuses heavily on mentoring and training design skills of engineers in all aspects of foundation design and ground engineering. Successful applicants will see projects through from tender, concept design, detailed design, project delivery and on-site testing and verification. Previous experience in heavy foundation design, ground engineering design, pile load testing, project management or site engineering on foundation/ground improvement projects will be advantageous. CPEng or NER status will also be favoured for senior roles.

These roles will allow you the opportunity to work in an office environment, but also have the opportunity to work on site as a site engineer to learn firsthand the multiple geotechnical construction techniques that Keller offer and how to deliver challenging projects. You will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing drawings and geotechnical reports and provide summaries as required
  • Reviewing and assessing enquiries/tenders ensuring all documents are received and are correct
  • Reviewing documents to assess scope, risks involved, tender complexity etc. and provide feedback to the estimating manager
  • Undertaking risk assessments and cost-benefit analysis on tenders
  • Preparing budget and tender proposals for foundation and ground improvement solutions, working with the design and estimating team to determine the best solutions
  • Preparing and carrying out foundation and ground improvement construction designs, following certification inspections through on site
  • Promoting and supporting a positive and pro-active safety culture in line with Keller’s policy
  • Establishing and maintaining a harmonious client/customer relationship to secure projects
  • Liaising with construction manager and superintendents on new projects being tendered and on successful projects won
  • Providing design support for projects under construction
  • Visiting sites for projects under construction to carry out inspections/soil logging/pile testing

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Civil Engineering and/or Geotechnical engineering
  • Detailed knowledge of soil mechanics and soil improvement systems including design standards and codes.
  • Ability to show initiative and confidence to work autonomously and as part of a larger team
  • Provide problem solving skills in a high-pressure environment
  • Requirement to work away from home or work on site, as and when required
  • Intermediate to advance in Microsoft office skills
  • Auto CAD skills will be looked upon favourably
  • Undertake training to become proficient in the use of design programs such as COLDES, RAPT, PIGLET, WALLAP, PLAXIS-2D, RATZ amongst others
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Must have a white card
