About the role
We are seeking an Apprentice Heavy Diesel Fitter / Plant Mechanic to join our Lawnton-based maintenance team. This role is designed for someone at the start of their trade and provides structured, hands-on learning across a specialised fleet of heavy plant and geotechnical equipment used on major projects nationwide.
You will work closely with experienced tradespeople while completing a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (Plant Mechanic) or equivalent qualification.
What you will learn
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be trained in:
• Servicing and maintaining heavy plant and mobile equipment
• Diagnosing and repairing diesel engines
• Working with hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, and cylinders
• Mechanical repairs to drivetrains, transmissions, and braking systems
• Basic electrical fault-finding on plant equipment
• Planned maintenance and breakdown repairs
• Safe work practices, isolation procedures, and workshop standards
• Understanding plant maintenance schedules and documentation
Key responsibilities
• Assist qualified tradespeople with servicing and repairs
• Support planned and reactive maintenance activities
• Maintain tools, equipment, and workshop housekeeping
• Follow all safety, quality, and environmental procedures
• Actively participate in on-the-job and formal training
About you
• Genuine interest in heavy diesel mechanics and plant equipment
• Willingness to learn, ask questions, and follow instructions
• Reliable, punctual, and safety focused
• Able to work effectively in a team environment
• Construction White Card (or willingness to obtain)
• Positive attitude and strong hands-on work ethic
