The project
An automated food distribution centre30km southwest of Brisbane, required strict control of slab deflection and settlement to support sensitive automated systems. Keller delivered foundation piling and ground improvement across the 65,000m² site, including deep CFA structural piles and rigid inclusions beneath the main slab.
The challenge
Tight settlement tolerances were critical to ensure performance of automated equipment. Ground conditions were complicated by historic coal mine voids, creating risks to pile integrity and construction consistency. Design changes during construction required a flexible approach, including increased pile lengths and resequencing of works to meet program demands.
The solution
Keller replaced the original bored piling approach with a CFA piling and rigid inclusion solution, leveraging its ability to provide multiple deep CFA rigs to accelerate delivery and meet program requirements. The combined approach enabled efficient installation while maintaining quality across both structural and ground improvement elements. Close collaboration with the main contractor ensured mine voids and ongoing design changes were effectively managed through controlled construction methodologies and flexible sequencing.
